How Hospitals Can Correct Google Plus For Business Listings With A Phone Call

As I learned at a conference recently, most hospitals and healthcare organizations are frustrated with Google Plus for Business listings (formerly Google Places) that are incorrect and sending patients to the wrong address or having them call the wrong phone number. This gets executives at hospitals very excited, very quickly. What is even more frustrating is the lack of live support for Google Places For Business which compounds the problem because it is difficult to get issues corrected. Fortunately I have found two ways to quickly correct Google Listings that I am going to share with you.

1) The first method, which is preferred by Google, is to submit through the “Report A Problem” link of the incorrect listing. You can find this link by going to map listing of the incorrect listings and clicking “more.” Once the menu drops down, the “Report a Problem” link will be at the bottom. This will take you to the next page where you can make changes to the listings and submit them to the Google team for review. This process works fairly well, but unpredictable. Response can vary from 24 hours to not at all which is totally unacceptable when patients are being directed to a pizza shop instead of the emergency room. If it is not tally pressing, I recommend using this method.

2. The more effective and timely solution is to talk to someone on the phone. To reach someone on the phone go to the Google Plus for Business Support page. Once on the support page, if you are logged-in to your account, you will see a red contact us button to the upper right.

After clicking the Contact us link, you will be directed to the following screen where you need to click the blue “Call Us” button.

Once you click the Call Us button, you will need to enter your name, e-mail, and callback phone number on the next screen. It is best to use the e-mail address of your Google Plus for Business account because it will decrease the amount of time verifying on the phone and in my experience problems are corrected quicker if you can refer to the accurate listing that you have created in your management account.

This works very well because this is a live person on the phone that you can explain the issue to rather than trying to accurately explain your issue in a comment box and being unsure when or if someone will respond.

    Brian, this is super helpful thanks for the tip. I have been stuck in this situation before and have been frustrated. I had a page that was incorrect for two months. Next time I will try the support page!

    A Business listing is a website or printed listing of information which lists all businesses within some category. Businesses can be categorized by business, location, activity, or size.
