I’m sitting on a airplane that is delayed due to thunderstorms and runway closures in Atlanta. This delay will likely cause delays and cancellation of some flights and some connecting flights.
I’m still amazed when I think about the crazy amount of logistics and decisions that must be made in such a short period of time. Since flights that are bound for Atlanta are not allowed to take off, this will impact flights all over the country and probably some all around the world. I would guess that this affects at least 20.000- 30,000 travelers.
Think of all of the combinations that must be considered and calculated to handle all of the possibilities. It’s easy to take for granted that arrival and departures just happen, but the database work on the backend is required to be pretty amazing.
A lil nerdy, but when you consider the actual work required to pull it off, making it all happen is far from an easy feat.
